Volunteers are people from all walks of life, all ages and stages. What they have in common is the desire to make a difference in their community – and in their own life – by giving of their time. Volunteers are involved in virtually every aspect of society including health, education, social services, youth, sports and recreation, culture, the arts and the environment.
There are countless ways to volunteer and thousands of organisations across Ireland looking for help. Interested in becoming a volunteer? It’s easy to get started – browse volunteering opportunities near you on I-VOL, the national database of volunteering opportunities and listings. In this section you will also find lots of helpful information and resources to get you started.
As an older volunteer you may choose to volunteer for a number of reasons:
You have recently retired and have much more spare time on your hands
As an older volunteer you can sign up to volunteer in two different ways. First, you can register with your local Volunteer Centre who will then contact you to discuss suitable volunteer opportunities in your area.
