The purpose of the Louth Age Friendly County Resource/Toolkit is to provide a resource to share Louth‘s learning with other counties contemplating implementing an Age Friendly Programme. This document does not aim to advise on how to develop an Age Friendly County but only serves as to provide insight and practical ideas and share documents. The approach used in some instances has been replicated from other participatory democratic processes used in the County Development Board delivery programme.
The Louth Age Friendly County Resource/Toolkit contributed to Louth wining the Excellence in Public Service Award in June 2012.
Developing Age Friendly planning guidelines is an action contained in the Louth Age Friendly County Strategy. Louth selected Ardee as a test within the County Development Planning process. The Louth Older People’s Forum made a submission to the county council, an action plan was developed and a steering group set up. After a 2 year period a review was carried out. The process provided the learning for 16 other towns in Ireland to become Age Friendly.
